Frequently Asked Furnace Repair Questions
Furnace Repair Question 1: What is the average cost of a furnace repair?
This is probably our most common furnace repair question, and the answer varies greatly depending on the situation. The type of furnace, how big the repair is, what the parts cost, and how much time it takes will factor into the cost. We are happy to come out for a small fee to assess your situation and give you an estimate at that time.
Furnace Repair Question 2: What are the most common furnace problems?
Serving the St. Louis area with furnace repair solutions since 1950, we have seen our fair share of problems, and there are some repairs that we perform regularly:
- Ignitor Repair – The ignitor gets your furnace going and if it is not properly maintained it can go bad from dirt and grime buildup. Replacing an ignitor costs approximately $300 to $400.
- Thermostat Replacement – Old mercury-based gauges or a faulty chip in a newer model thermostat will give your furnace incorrect information. As a result, your furnace may not be putting out the heat it should. Basic-model thermostats start around $50 and advanced smart thermostats will set you back about $250.
- Flame Sensor Repair – This component regulates the amount of fuel that is burned. If it is bad, it can cause fuel to burn improperly and shut down the furnace. This is a big safety issue and should be taken care of immediately. Replacing flame sensors runs $80 to $250 on average.
- Furnace Motor Repair or Replacement – While this is a costlier repair of $400-$1,500, the motor is the life of your furnace. Without it, you simply will not have heat.
Furnace Repair Question 3: My furnace quit working overnight and it is below zero. Help!
We want to keep you safe and warm all winter long, so we provide furnace repair 24/7. Just give us a call, and we will schedule a repair appointment as soon as possible. Please note, there will be a surcharge for calls outside of normal business hours.
Furnace Repair Question 4: Do you have any preventative tips so I can avoid furnace repairs?
Regular maintenance of your HVAC system is key. There are some things you can do yourself like changing the filter regularly, doing a visual inspection every year, and calling a professional for a yearly check-up on your system. Your HVAC professional will check for any issues and hopefully catch them before they turn into larger more costly repairs.
Furnace Repair Question 5: How long will it take to get my furnace repaired?
This will depend on the issue. The technician will first inspect your system and determine the problem. Some things can be fixed immediately, but if parts have to be ordered or the repair cannot be done during the initial appointment then it could be a few days before the repair can be done.
